Window washing scratches

Here's a thought. Just one other scenario on when the scratches on the glass could have occurred......If you had not washed the windows since you moved in it's quite possible that the scratches have been there the whole time and you just didn't notice them until you got the glass cleaned. The windows would have been washed/wiped/cleaned numerous times prior to your moving in during the build process. At a minimum when they were being installed and then again prior to your moving in when the house or unit was being made ready for move in. At that time you may not have been looking closely at the windows like you are right now after they got cleaned. Just a thought. It's really hard to say when something like this actually happened when you haven't cleaned them since you moved in and have probably never really looked at them closely like you are now.

Hi Joe,
No, that's not the case. In the second post on this topic, Joseph (of Weird Windows) acknowledged that he has cleaned my windows over the years. I would say he cleaned them approximately 6 times. There is no other explanation for the scratches. Scratches can happen when windows are cleaned, I understand that. That's why I wish I would have hired a company with insurance. Then I wouldn't have to pay to replace three windows.

UPDATE: I found out Joseph does carry insurance.

I have to agree with Lorrie.

Given the potential for any kind of accidental damage when a contractor works in your home, it makes sense to ask for proof of insurance (and checking to be sure there's adequate coverage). Prior to cleaning our windows for the first (and probably last) time a couple of months ago, Joseph told me he had insurance. At the time, I didn't ask for proof. Next time I will.

Given all the construction, Mueller is so dusty and dirty that damage from scratching is more likely than in more established neighborhoods. Window cleaning contractors should take the extra time and effort to avoid problems...and we as consumers should expect to pay a bit more perhaps.

Lorrie,

Does Weird Window Cleaning carry insurance? Their ad appears on this site, and it says "15 yrs exp. Insured." I would have assumed that meant they carried insurance for such a thing.

Thanks Susan and Grant! I was not aware that Joseph carried insurance. I will find out if he will use it to cover the accidental damage.

Just offering another option (I have not tried this myself): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWlvWhRblYQ
Good luck with your resolution.

Thanks so much Ron but the scratches are not small. They cover large areas of the windows. I had three window companies come out and they told me that buffing will not be cost-effective and when scratches are near the edge, distortion can occur.

Also, one window is upstairs and my ladder won't even reach. The scratches are on the outside.

This thread prompted me to go back and look at all my windows, which Weird Window Cleaning washed. They look great! I don't see any marks anywhere and just find it so hard to believe that Joe caused that issue (which I think is what is being said here). If that's the case, it must've been a very rare occurrence, and I'm sure Joe will help get it resolved.

Yes, I'm sure it is rare and I hope he agrees to resolve the situation. I have reached out to him and am waiting to hear back.
