Our sweet cat needs a new home. We cannot give her the affection and attention that you she has been used to since the arrival of our baby. She is black with white socks. Eleven years old, but acts like she is six. Loves to cuddle once she has warmed up to you. Please email if interested at kimberly_pierce@hotmail.com.

We have two dogs that definitely don't get as much attention as they did before the spawn arrived. But, you eventually work them in and they get used to the second citizen status. And, I believe this to be better than making them adjust to a new life and new people. If you can, hang in there. The kitty will adjust and from what I hear about cat behaviourists, they get very attached to their surroundings, not just their owners. She, especially at such and advanced age, would probably be much happier to remain in her surroundings, even if it means less cuddles. 11 is pretty old to adjust!

Ditto, Miss Elaine. If it's a matter of litterbox cleaning, I'm sure you could hire someone for $10/wk to help; there seem to be plenty of teenagers in the community looking for jobs.

As my first posting to this site, please only respond to my "classified" posting if interested in a home for our cat. I have no patience for uninvited opinions, judgement or outright bad mojo. We are a community... Let's just be nice to each other.

Advice can be helpful to some. I volunteered in a shelter and know how hard it is to find a home for an 11 year old kitty Of course my, and probably other's, first response would be to prevent that fate. I'm sorry you are so offended, but as an animal lover, I couldn't just ignore it. Rage on.

Whoa, lets chalk up Kimberly's extremely defensive tone to the fact that she already feels guilty for trying to give away a senior cat because she doesn't have the 5 minutes it takes to clean a litter box and throw down some food. I guess its better for the cat to live out its last years in a cage [or be euthanized] rather than be an inconvenience. I'm sure she is a great mom and as such can perhaps muster up some of that maternal feeling for a living being she [at some point] committed to providing a forever home for.

I am officially trying to figure out how to delete my account and never have to view rude postings again. Reading this site is so different than the positive day interactions that I have with wonderful neighbors, even when opinions differ. I don't know why I have stayed with it for so long.

I am fine with different opinions, but I do have a problem with what I perceive as judgemental attacks. Kimberly, good for you for reaching out and trying to find a better situation for your cat. There could be the perfect home for your cat in our neighborhood. You would never know if you didn't ask. Of course, you could have avoided all of these attacks by just taking your cat to a shelter, which is unfortunately what many people choose to do, so I don't know why others have such a problem with a simple inquiry. Being a new mom is tough and I think a post on this website looking to find a new home for your cat is completely justified.

Everyone, please respond to this post many, many times if you are so inclined. The good, the bad, the rude - I won't be reading any of it. If you'd like to discuss this in person, it won't be too hard to figure out another way to reach out to me.

My remark was not judgmental or an attack and I'm sorry you see it that way.

I was trying to make her situation better by explaining that the cat would still probably be happier staying where she is and getting less attention then being moved. The cat will get over it and forgive her for less attention and as it gets easier with the baby, as it will, then the cat will probably get more attention, especially from an excited child.

I know it's hard when you have a baby, but things do get better and easier. I just wanted her to maybe take a breather and give the cat a chance. I don't know how this could be construed as rude and unsolicited! I would have welcomed that when I was struggling with our two dogs and cat when I had a reflux-ridden, constantly crying baby.

I'm afraid it was her response back that was rude, not mine.

Bonus: Having a cat reduces allergy risks in children.

Sorry, but Kimberly's rude response to comments that were meant to give her moral support and perspective did rile me up as a new mother and owner of animals (one that's elderly and one that I am not particulary attached to but will keep until the day she dies).

I'm fairly sure that there won't be a stampede of people wanting to take an 11 year cat off of her hands, since there is an abundance of kittens and cats around here already. Don't be deluded, that cat IS going to the shelter (just like the 12 year old one Nicole Phelps wanted to give away on August 28) and I for one don't feel like congratulating them for their attempts to relieve their guilt by posting it on the site before they do it. You can't post things like this and not expect people's opinions and advice. That's unrealistic...as unrealistic as finding a home for an 11 year old cat.
