Hello everyone... finally getting settled in, spending the weekend without appliances, cable, internet. It's almost like camping. lol
We used to live in Northwest Austin, in the same home I lived in when I was a UT student... so time to upgrade! We're both very excited to be a part of this community and look forward to getting to know everyone.
Sam and I both work from home (him for Dell, me for my own web design company), so while there's not much neighborhood watching we can do while facing the old tarmac, we are here if anyone needs help during the day!
In about a week's time we'll be moving in to 4216 Berkman. If you are intent to do some neighborhood watching you can turn your head down the road and keep an eye on our place! About 2-3 weeks ago somebody broke in and stole all the big appliances. As if that wasn't bad enough they tried to steal a pedestal sink and in the process broke a water line. And wouldn't you know it, there weren't polite enough to shut the water off on their way out. :-) So the whole first floor flooded.
But I must say that everybody at David Weekly handled beautifully and we are ready to move in with spirits undampened! It is nice to see more of Berkman start to come to life. Well, one side of the street anyway. For the time being I kind of consider the old airport taxi way to be my front yard! Anyway, glad to meet you and look forward to meeting you in person.
Glad to hear your spirits are undampened! That must have been a rude shock. As I'm sure you've now heard, under-construction homes are often easy targets for thieves, especially on the edge of civilization like you are. Good job by David Weekly on dealing with it (it is their job, after all - you aren't responsible for the house until you close).
To my knowledge, there haven't been any break-ins on any occupied homes at Mueller (correct me if I'm wrong, anybody), for which we can thank the density, the neighborliness, and maybe even the lights (though I agree with most people that I'd rather they didn't shine right into my bedroom!). If everyone is vigilant, hopefully we can keep it safe here.
Welcome, Sam & Jimmy (I work at Dell too!) and Ross Houston. You are in a rocking area of the hood up by the Camacho Compadres! You have two awesome Block Captains for Berkman in Julie Witt on the DW end and Ashley Leitch on the Streetman end. They'll be reaching out to ya'll to add you to the Berkman distribution list which will keep ya'll in the loop on all thing Mueller.
Welcome! We are thrilled with how dynamic the Mueller community is!
Our family will move into our house at Threadgill and Zach School in thirty-two days. But who's counting?
Are there any families that carpool to either Kealing or LASA/LBJ in the mornings? Also, does anyone have experience with the AISD bus that picks up/drops off near the park? We are trying to get things set up in time for second semester. Please pm me if interested or if have any information.
My husband's son spends every other week with us, and we drive him and a friend to LASA on those mornings. They take the #20 bus home in the afternoons, and it drops them off at the edge of the prairie park at Manor and Anchor. I think there's also a stop at Berkman. We've got room for another one or two, if yours need a ride.
