Moving on Jan 7th 2010! At&t v Time Warner "bundles" HELP
by David H. on January 1st, 2010

Dear Mueller residents: Tim and I (David) will move in next week and we're wondering about the pros/cons of ATT v Time Warner bundles (internet, cable, phone). We've had TimeW for ever, but we are considering ATT. We have heard horror stories about ATT (not that Time W) doesn't have issues.
Any help ideas about which to go with? We will be limited with ADT monitoring, so we've narrowed it to either ATT and TimeW. Thanks and we look forward to meeting our new neighbors! David and Tim

Our experience...

AT&T's customer service is awful... but their product is awesome

Time Warner's customer service is great... but their product is lacking (especially for internet)

Since we both work from home, we decided that AT&T was the right decision for us, since it's critical that we have a super fast internet connection. But the customer support headaches have been maddening. Installation took a week (with many missed appointments and no phone calls) and the same experience when we had Internet problems... even had to cancel a trip out of town to handle it.

So it's really a question of pick your poison!

Another AT&T experience:

We found that the guy who hooked up the On-Q was a champ (dug through piles of insulation in out attic in August, resolving a kink in our conduit), but the U-Verse installer was only adequately competent (I.e. she could install it, but not really answer questions about it).

We haven't had to call customer service (yet), so I have no experience to share there.

I can tell you that the set-top box makes Time Warner's look like it's running on an Atari circa 1984. Not a TiVo, but we're happy with it.

Hope that helps,
---bruce

AT&T U-Verse is far superior than Time Warner. We have used their services for television, internet, and voice-over telephone since November, 2008. We are most pleased with their Customer Services too. You can also bundle in cellphone service if desired.

Is Grande not offered in Mueller? Grande is LOCAL and has wonderful service and performance so far, plus they offer way better deals than the mega-corporations.. Very regional, and not too Round Rocky. I'd say support local business but I understand the shopping around to try to get your moneys worth. I guess as a local, small business ourselves we lean towards non-chain stores or large corporate conglomerates.

Unless it's changed recently, Grande is not offered in Mueller.

We had Grande at our previous home and miss them very much. No, they do not serve our neighborhood. If you're interested, call to let them know you want their service. The company had gotten bogged down with debt and weren't able to expand for a while, but recent news indicates they might be ready to start expanding again. With both AT&T and Time Warner already servicing us, we probably aren't prime expansion candidates unless they hear a lot of interest from our neighborhood, though.

little trick...just got set up for att. they are currently offering a 200 dollar visa gift card (some days 300) for signing up. when you've built what you want hit the "chat" link. ask the person for more discounts. say you know about the maximum one they can give ($100) and you'd like that one. you'll get a total of $400 gift cards. if you speak to someone on line they can only give you free hbo for 3 months, loose the iptv fee ($29) and give you a whole $10 off per month for 6 months. go with the online gift cards. much better deal. you can always threaten to leave (no contracts with att uverse) and get a better deal.

Tivo Services
by Lorrie on December 19th, 2011

I just called Grande and they are still not servicing Mueller. So sad because I would love to get TiVo service through them. The woman said that if they get a lot of interest, they will expand here.

if you're interested in having another cable option, give them a call at 512-220-4600.
Or go to their website: http://www.mygrande.com/austin/customer_care/support/

Always good to have more competition!
