A/C Repairman for unit running too cold?
by henningspruth on August 31st, 2010

A faulty damper was one of the issues found during the home inspection I had done before the warranty ran out - so no, there is no timer ;-).

So we have figured it out that we are having problems with both dampers in our house. The wonderful technician from Fox that finally figured it out thought that it was horrible that our control panel was left sitting on top of our furnace, instead of being mounted. The Christianson folks say, 'yes, that's just fine and we often do that' the plastic panel on the bottom protects it. Doesn't seem right to me. Anyone else out there have an opinion?

i should also mention for those of you that had your HVACs put in by Christianson there is a 5 year warranty on the dampers. So at least that is being replaced for free. We'll be paying the labor though.

When R&M Mechanical came out to repair our damper a few weeks ago, the technician found the exact same thing where the control panel was left sitting on top of the furnace with no cover on it (e.g. open circuit boards with dust all over them). He mounted the board on a beam above the unit and stated that it shouldn't be laying there open like that on the furnace. I believe the original installation on our Standard Pacificc unit was done by Casa Mechanical.

Hi all,

I wanted to ping the group to hear if there has been more recent feedback on AC repairfolks in the area.

We're in a Standard Pacific Casa-installed home, phase I. We were a resell, so we entered the house a year ago. Toward the end of last summer, we had the issue of the upstairs cooling beyond the setpoint (I assume due to dampers). We called a few different folks out to look at it.

* Christianson said the dampers needed to be replaced at ~$1000
* Casa said nothing was wrong. (Second opinion!).

Cooler weather came in, which ended up eliminating our problem, so we let it sit. We had a Pecan Street Energy Audit, which revealed duct leakage. The company we called out (from the resell home warranty company) said that there were improperly closed cuts in the duct work (e.g. Casa from their inspection).

Now, the upstairs is an icebox again. R&M and Fox seem to be the two that folks have had success with damper repairs. Was the $1000 repair quote in the right ballpark?

I appreciate any suggestions/updates!

Brandon

The project is a brilliant execution, I am currently a university student and used a similar design for my semester project. It is feels good to see it in actuality, my air conditioning San Diego project was highly praised and was top of the class as well, due to the level of detail. I'll be stealing this link now, have a good day.
