Dryer space issue
by fullmosey on November 8th, 2008

I just moved into a Meritage (Cole, Antone, Scott) house. My washer fits just fine but my dryer will not go back far enough and allow for a vent hookup.

I read some of the old posts but wondered if anyone had figured out a decent venting solution to allow the dryer to be pushed further back.

Otherwise, could some of you send me some make and model recommendations?

Hurry, I'm typing this wearing damp clothes right now.

Cheers,
Dan

Ours just sticks out a bit :(

We had the same problem at our last house and just learned to live with it. But if you find a solution, please post it. It drives me crazy that I can't push it all the way back!

Ours sticks out so much that we can hardly walk around it. It's ridiculous. I think our dryer is extra large too. I'll let you know if I figure it out.

Recessed Dryer Box
by Joe Zabreznik on November 25th, 2008

Here's your solution......I'm in a SP home and had to do this fix after I closed. You usually would have this done during the framing stage, before drywall, but it's doable after the fact. You just have to patch some drywall, cut baseboards and do some painting when you're done.

The metal recessed vent can be purchased at a number of places around town (got mine at Standard Supply for $27).

Here's a link to the manufacturer's website if anyone wants to do a search for other retailers: Dryer Box Website

Also, there are different depths for this box since it sits "in" the wall. Mine was for a 2x6 wall but there are also 2x4 versions.

People are welcome to swing by and see the space savings if they'd like to. Just give me a call first....388-4582.

Let me know if anyone has questions.

Sweet. We are just about to move in and I was worried about this. But now, my worries are abated and I can now rest peacefully at night. Thanks a million, Barkingspider, I owe you a beer!
