Where can we go to order/get our trash and recycling bins?

The city of Austin will deliver your trash and recycling bin. They came out on a Friday when they delivered ours. Be sure to check inside the trash can for the recycling bin before you get all heated up about missing a recycling bin.

As a side note, our trash pick up is first on their list on Fridays so have your junk to the alley BEFORE 6:30 AM!

Call the City of Austin at 512-494-9400 and push the appropriate number for solid waste services , or dial 311. Delivery of trash receptacles is not automatic when you set up your electric service. Call a few days in advance of when you'd like service to commence and they'll drop off your containers the next trash pick-up date (for my street, at least, it's Fridays). They did warn me that it may take up to two weeks, so we plan to have ours delivered the Friday before we close, rather than the Friday after, just in case it does take extra time.

Related question...according to the booklet Austin Solid Waste provided, we can pick up a 2nd/extra recycling bin at Austin Fire Dept. stations. Does anyone know if that is correct? I simply wonder if the booklet is outdated b/c the city rep. I spoke (approx. a month ago) with indicated the City did not have extra recycling bins.

We just called and asked for a 2nd one and a week later they delivered one to us.

Was it Austin Solid Waste Services that you called? They're the ones that said none were available b/c they were preparing to replace the recycling bins w/carts like those for garbage. Guess I should call them...our little blue recycling bin has been overflowing every time we've put it out since moving to Mueller.

Yes, it was Austin Solid Waste that we called, but that was in January. I didn't know they were planning on replacing them. Maybe they've changed their policy because of the new bins they are going to roll out.

Austin Fire station no longer stock recycling bins. You might possibly maybe find a fire station that still has a few, but I know that FS14 on Airport Bl, your friendly neighborhood fire station serving the Mueller neighborhood since 1952, hasn't had any for several weeks.

We were told that Solid Waste Services is going to start issuing larger wheeled receptacles similar to the current trash mini-dumpsters in the near future, but I haven't heard what the definition of "near future" is.

We asked Solid Waste reps last night at the Green Living Expo last night when they'd be rolling out the new carts. They said October!! Maybe y'all will get them sooner... I didn't ask specifically about Mueller. It's a large cart (same size as 60 gallon I think) and they said they'll collect the recycling every other week.
