Pool Hours?
by John Guest on June 17th, 2009

I'd like to affirm Adamelama's take on a regular full day pool closure every week. It is generally considered good pool management to let the system go swimmer free for a full 24 hours. The fallow day allows periodic maintenance, more intense cleaning and the use of shock chemicals. I wouldn't be surprised if very little actually happens there on closure day, but I feel better knowing that the system is treating the water without swimmer "input" for a full 24-hr period once every week.

In doing a little interent review, I would also note that the issue of a need to close a pool on a periodic basis gets debated all over. I've seen reports of pools staying open constantly without any apparent difficulty.

I'm a traditionalist and believe everyone and everything needs a periodic rest. I think it better to know the pool is going to be closed on Monday rather than seing the pool close on more randomly selected days because of a need for more intense intervention or repair. Like a good horse, it's probably a good idea to stay off its back every once in a while.

On a different note...does anyone know what time swim lesson are going on? I would prefer to avoid a gaggle of kids when I head for a swim.

I believe the swim team/ lessons are 7-9am. I'm assuming that's weekdays only.

swim team is from 7:30-8:30 and lessons start at 9. Not sure how long lessons last. weekdays only, but we will be having a swim meet next saturday morning. small meet and I'm not sure of the time. I'm sure it'll be earlier in the morning.

Your best bet to avoid kids is to swim during the work day. There are lanes roped off all the time for swimming laps though.

Any idea of the time for the swim meet yet?

If I finish swimming by 7:30, will I be out of their way?

Thanks.

I've noticed quite a few folks in the pool today, but was under the impression that the pool is closed to residents and non-residents each Monday - is this still the case?

Apparently there was an end of the season Swim Team party at the pool today. It is still normally closed on Mondays.

All,

Can someone tell me when the pool closes for the season?
I've really enjoyed it this summer.

Thanks,

Daniel

Daniel: The lifeguard service to the pool concluded on Labor Day. Pool maintenance will, of course, continue year round. The plan, I believe, is for card access to residents to remain available through the end of October. The pool will remain closed on Mondays.

The Pool Advisory Committee is meeting this afternoon and if I get better information, I'll post it here again. John
